At StopCedarFlats.ca, we are residents, farmers, conservationists, and community members who believe in protecting productive farmland, fragile ecosystems, and rural health from irresponsible industrial development.
The Cedar Flats Wind Project is a proposed 220 MW industrial wind development that would stretch across the Townships of South-West Oxford and Malahide in Elgin County, Ontario. If approved, this project would bring dozens of massive wind turbines into one of Ontario’s richest agricultural zones and along a key migratory corridor for birds and bats.
This project may be marketed as “clean energy,” but it comes with real and permanent consequences:
🚫 Destruction of Prime Farmland – Class 1 and 2 soils, once compacted or fragmented, are lost forever.
🦉 Wildlife Risk – Purple Martins, Hoary Bats, Bobolinks, and many migratory species face deadly turbine blades.
💧 Water Table Disruption – Turbine foundations and trenching threaten aquifers, wells, and watershed systems.
🏡 Rural Community Impact – Noise, shadow flicker, and visual industrialization damage peace, health, and property values.
📣 To stop the Cedar Flats Wind Project and protect Ontario’s land, wildlife, and people.
We do this by:
Raising public awareness through factual reporting and outreach
Providing downloadable materials for residents to take action
Hosting a petition and open letter to show united local resistance
Advocating for transparency, environmental review, and long-term accountability
Ontario needs responsible energy — not reckless placement.
Rural residents deserve a voice in decisions that affect their land and families.
Wildlife corridors, migratory flyways, and water systems are not negotiable.
Once farmland is lost, it’s gone forever.
